Two quarters of a triangle - exploring Yorkshire

For the second May bank holiday, we decided to head to Yorkshire for the weekend. I've not spent that much time in the north, but this isn't actually very far north. Just past the Midlands really. Anyhow...

I was most obsessed with going to The Hepworth Wakefield and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, both part of the Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle - which actually consists of 4 museums.

We hired an airbnb just outside of Wakefield and incidentally within another triangle, the rhubarb triangle. Cute airbnb, we even had our very own rabbit roaming the garden.

We ended up spending hours in the Hepworth, sheltering from a thunderstorm as we lost ourselves in JW Anderson's 'Disobedient Bodies' exhibition (beautifully curated). Continued onto the Yorkshire Sculpture Park which is huge, so many lovely pieces, so many we didn't get to see despite running around towards the end.

Oh, and whilst we were in Wakefield, I couldn't resist hunting down the plaque for The Cribs, a cherished band of mine.

Check out Martin Parr's photography of the Rhubarb Triangle here.

The Ferryman

Everyone should go and see this play, a magnificent, moving and funny story.

I saw it at The Royal Court but it's transferring to the West End. All info here

Tunes for the many

So many that I had to separate into two mixes (it has been about 6 months)- the first is more chilled

Mix #5

More tunes for you. Again mostly new ones but some oldies.

I coincidentally happened to be listening to lots of Leonard Cohen in the last few months - Domino's John Cale reissues a live album that includes 'Hallelujah', which is the version Jeff Buckley came across and our Last Shadow Puppets covered an LC track too. Plus Hunt For the Wilderpeople used the beautiful 'The Partisan' on the soundtrack, a fitting end to this playlist. Nice film too.
Cohen's recent album featured on the last playlist and you should check it if you haven't already: "Hineni, hineni. I'm ready, my lord"

Well, tonight, thank God it's them instead of you

Got to love Bono, such an ambassador for the people.

But yes, that does mean Christmas is coming.

So Slava's snow show at the Southbank last year was pretty wack. It was entertaining by the end because if we didn't join in the laughter, I would have been sad about the time and money I wasted. Best bit was a guy (Russian clown?) sliding across the floor with a fin on his back pretending to be a shark. For 5 seconds.

This year, I've managed to bag tickets for Westminster's Abbey Carols Service which I'm excited about it. They are free tickets so sell out instantly. Never been inside Westminster Abbey either (you know how it goes when you live in the capital). More info here.

I'm also going to head out with the family to Christmas at Kew, there is Santa and rides for the nephew but also it just looks really nice all lit up - a bit fantastical which I guess is good at Christmas. Let's hope it doesn't rain.
